At two recent work parties, we got the opportunity to start clearing the Historic Dry Dock at Paulton. The dock is thought to be the largest in the country on a narrow canal. It has enough space to home three narrow boats for maintenance and repair.
Clearing of the historic dry dock was back breaking work with all of the rubbish having to be lifted out by hand. We also had to be very careful not to cause damage to the cobbled floor as we lifted the roots. We are continuing to clear the dock at the next two work parties planned on 1st Oct and 8th Oct. Come and help us out! Visit our Facebook Page /CoalCanal for more information.
The photo shows clearance achieved after the first work party, versus clearance after the second work party.
We hope that you agree the hard work will be worth it in the end!
