We waited a long time for it to arrive, so we were pleased to see our metal miner figure installed next to the Dry Dock at Paulton Basin back in November 2024.
Many thanks to Bryn Hawkins and The Somerset Miners Welfare Trust for arranging its installation.
Metal miner figures have been installed all around North Somerset to mark the county’s mining heritage. The Somersetshire Coal Canal played a key part in transporting coal from the coalfields into Bath and beyond and allowed it to be sold at a competitive price as a result. Prior to the canal being built, it was cheaper to buy coal in Bath from places much further away than our Somerset Coalfields.
